Often referred to as Ambrosia Salad (the food of the Gods), this 5 Cup Salad reminds me of a treat my grandmother used to make for family gatherings! It’s called 5 Cup Salad because it’s made with 1 cup of all 5 ingredients.

  • Sour Cream
  • Mandarin Oranges
  • Pineapple Tidbits

Now if it can officially be called a “salad” is debatable but one thing is for certain, it’s delicious! The tanginess of the sour cream pairs so well with the sweet pineapple and coconut!

5 Cup Salad with Fruit

I think this 5 cup salad tastes even better after being refrigerated for a few hours (although you can certainly enjoy it right away) so the flavors have time to meld together! Making it in advance also saves you some time if you’re hosting a large gathering!

This 5 Cup Salad will last in your refrigerator for up to 3 days. Just store it in an airtight container.

5 Cup Salad Recipe Tips

  • Feel free to substitute the regular mini marshmallows for the rainbow colored fruit-flavored mini marshmallows if you like! If you only have larger marshmallows, just cut them down into smaller pieces.
  • Instead of sour cream, you can use Greek yogurt, Cool Whip, Whipped Cream or even a blend of two.
  • Instead of pineapple tidbits, you can use crushed pineapple or pineapple chunks.
  • Serve with a garnish of a maraschino cherry and a pinch of fresh mint for a pretty presentation!
